Morrow for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV is live on the App Store, and iPhone and iPad builds are also in TestFlight. The Android app is live on Google Play. Version-numbered notes for each public release are below, followed by a summary of everything the current builds do.
1.0 (Apple TV)
Released September 17, 2026. The first Apple TV release, on the same App Store listing as the iPhone and iPad app. It is free, with everything included.
- Home, Library, Now Playing, and Settings, built for the Siri Remote
- Connects to the same BookOrbit, Audiobookshelf, and Grimmory servers as the iPhone and iPad app. With "Sync Servers and Up Next" turned on, servers you already set up there appear on the TV without typing them in again
- Your place in a book lives on your server, so the TV picks up where your phone left off. Up Next, Continue Listening choices, playback speed, and listening history sync between your Apple devices too
- Put Morrow in the top row of the Home Screen and the Top Shelf shows Continue Listening, with progress on each book
1.7 (iPhone and iPad)
Released September 15, 2026.
Works with BookOrbit 2.10
- BookOrbit 2.10 changed how servers handle listening progress, streaming, and bookmarks. On Morrow 1.6, a BookOrbit server that has updated stops saving your place, shows an empty Continue Listening, and cannot stream books you have not downloaded. 1.7 uses the new BookOrbit connection, and servers still on an earlier BookOrbit keep working as before
- Continue Listening now shows the same books as BookOrbit's own web app. Marking a book Read or Abandoned there takes it off Continue Listening in Morrow too
- Bookmarks can now be renamed on BookOrbit servers
Your place is safer
- Briefly opening a book you started earlier no longer moves its saved position back or pushes it to the front of Continue Listening
- Picking a book back up after a long break no longer loses the few seconds Morrow replays so you can catch the thread
- Streaming a long book no longer stops for a moment every fifteen minutes
- A download that is still running when the app updates now finishes and is kept
Adding a server
- Test Connection checks your details before anything is saved
- Adding a server you already have is caught instead of creating a second copy
- Cloudflare Access headers pasted with their labels are cleaned up, and they now come back with the server when you restore from iCloud
- Clearer messages when an address cannot be found, a password, API key, or magic link is rejected, or a request is blocked before it reaches your server
Elsewhere
- Choose any accent color, not just the preset ones
- Export Diagnostics, in About, creates a log you can send to support. Book titles and server addresses are removed first
- Bookmarks added on another device appear when you come back to the app
- Your default playback speed is part of the iCloud backup, and tapping a download in Settings takes you straight to Playing
- In CarPlay, the Offline tab updates as downloads finish, and a Home row opens the whole shelf
- Built for iOS 27. Home Screen widgets keep full-color cover art in the tinted and clear styles
Android build 22
In Google Play testing from September 29, 2026.
Deutsch
- Morrow for Android is now in German as well as English. It follows the phone's language, or set Morrow alone to German in Android Settings, Apps, Morrow, Language
- Book titles, names, and chapters are shown as your server sends them
Works with BookOrbit 3.0
- BookOrbit 3.0 changed how the server answers for Home's shelves. On Android build 21, a BookOrbit server that has updated shows an empty Continue Listening, Recently Added, and Discover. Build 22 reads the new answer, and servers on an earlier BookOrbit keep working as before
- When one shelf cannot be loaded, Home keeps what it was showing instead of going blank
Audiobooks on this device
- Play audiobook files you already have, with no server. Add On This Device in Settings, then import or link files or a whole folder from your phone, an SD card, or a storage app such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or Box
- Import copies the files into Morrow. Link leaves them where they are and takes no extra room, but a linked audiobook stops playing if the original is moved, renamed, or deleted
- Send an audio file to Morrow from another app with Share or Open with
- Files that share an album tag become one audiobook, played in order. Chapters, cover art, author, narrator, and series come from the files themselves
- Supports MP3, M4B, M4A, AAC, FLAC, WAV, Ogg, and Opus
- These audiobooks stay on your device. They are never synced, and they are free to use whether or not you have Morrow Unlock
Your place is safer
- Listening done offline no longer overwrites newer progress from another device when your phone reconnects
- Switching servers in the middle of a book always saves your place to the server the book came from
- Marking an Audiobookshelf book Finished, or hiding it from Continue Listening, can no longer reset its position
- If the next book in Up Next cannot be loaded when a book ends, it stays in Up Next
- Briefly opening a book you started earlier no longer moves its saved position back or pushes it to the front of Continue Listening
- Each server remembers the book you were listening to, and brings it back when you switch to that server
Downloads
- A download that is interrupted carries on from where it stopped instead of starting over
Elsewhere
- Choose any accent color, not just the preset ones
- Export Diagnostics and Email Diagnostics, in About, create a log you can send to support. Book titles, server addresses, and account names are removed first
- Library filters show how many books each one holds, and books with no status count as Unread
- The Library remembers the sort you chose
- Bookmarks added on another device appear when you come back to the app
- A server with no saved password asks for it instead of failing to connect
- The server screen notes when an address uses http rather than https
Android build 21
In Google Play testing from September 15, 2026.
Works with BookOrbit 2.10
- BookOrbit 2.10 changed how servers handle listening progress, streaming, and bookmarks. On Android build 20, a BookOrbit server that has updated stops saving your place, shows an empty Continue Listening, and cannot stream books you have not downloaded. Build 21 uses the new BookOrbit connection, and servers still on an earlier BookOrbit keep working as before
- Continue Listening now shows the same books as BookOrbit's own web app. Marking a book Read or Abandoned there takes it off Continue Listening in Morrow too, on any BookOrbit version
- Bookmarks can now be renamed on BookOrbit servers
- A save that fails is now written to the playback log with the reason, so a server problem can no longer go unnoticed
1.6 (iPhone and iPad)
Released September 11, 2026. The first public release since 1.5.
Playback no longer gets stuck
- Playback that stopped part way through a book with the timer frozen now starts again on its own, usually within about fifteen seconds. Previously it stayed stuck until you force quit the app. If it genuinely cannot recover, Morrow now says so instead of sitting silent
- Your place is protected through that recovery. A book picking itself back up can no longer write the start of the file over the position you were actually at, which on a long book meant losing hours
Listening offline
- Downloaded books now play with no server connection at all, keeping their cover art, chapter list, and bookmarks. Previously some of that was only available while the server was reachable
- Bookmarks you add, rename, or delete offline are sent to the server once you reconnect, and no longer arrive duplicated
Getting back to where you were
- Reinstalling from an iCloud backup returns you to the server you were actually using, rather than the first one in your list
- The protection that carries your position across a server-side re-import is now part of the iCloud backup, so it survives a reinstall or a new device
- A book joins Continue Listening after thirty seconds of listening instead of a full minute
Large libraries
- Home shelves fill in as your library loads instead of waiting for the whole thing
- Search no longer flashes "No Results" while you are still typing
- The Library tab loads more books as you scroll, and the Series tab no longer comes up nearly empty
Elsewhere
- Ask Siri to resume your audiobook, or put a resume control in Control Center or on the Action Button
- Up Next is a Home shelf you can reorder or hide, and a book only leaves the queue once it has really started playing
- CarPlay gains a bookmark button and a working playback speed control. The Offline tab lists every download and switches servers when you tap one, and the chapter list opens on the chapter you are actually in
- Cover art no longer shows the wrong book, and loads faster on a cold start
- When a server or a file is unavailable, Morrow explains what happened in plain language instead of showing raw error text
- Everything Morrow syncs between your devices is encrypted end to end
Current builds
- BookOrbit, Audiobookshelf, and Grimmory servers on iPhone, iPad, and Android, with automatic re-authentication (Audiobookshelf supports API-key sign-in; BookOrbit supports magic-link sign-in for password-less "Shared account" servers; Grimmory uses username and password, and compatible legacy Booklore servers connect as the Grimmory type). The free version connects one server; Morrow Unlock connects several and switches between them
- A BookOrbit server set to single sign-on only (new in BookOrbit 2.9) now says so up front, on Apple and Android, instead of failing the password sign-in with a misleading "no access" error or asking you to re-enter a password that can never work. Signing in with SSO from Morrow is not supported yet; ask your server admin about a password account in the meantime
- Android counts a book as started after thirty seconds of listening instead of a full minute, matching iPhone and iPad, so a short first sitting shows up on Continue Listening everywhere
- Android's server editor has a Test Connection button that tries the address, credentials and any custom headers without saving anything, and shows the result right there
- Android cleans up pasted header values, so a stray label or surrounding whitespace no longer breaks Cloudflare Access; pasting both Cloudflare credentials as one block fills both fields, and a value that does not look like the ID or secret it expects gets a warning
- Android refuses to add a server that is already configured and names the existing entry, so downloads, listening history and Continue Listening choices do not silently start over under a second copy
- When Cloudflare Access blocks a sign-in before it reaches the server, Android says so and points at the Advanced headers instead of blaming the account. A plain 403 no longer claims the server refused the account when that is not actually known
- Library browsing with search, sorting, series, and collections; book details page with synopsis, community ratings, metadata, chapters, track information, and your current listening position
- Home tab: your in-progress books on the currently selected server, with swipe-to-remove, plus a manual "Up Next" queue you can add books to and reorder. Finishing a book automatically starts the next one queued; Morrow Unlock adds an optional setting to automatically keep the next queued book downloaded before you get to it
- A Home Screen widget on Apple and Android shows the book you're currently listening to (cover, title, author, and progress), has working play/pause and skip buttons, and taps straight into Now Playing. On Apple it comes in small, medium, and large sizes, plus a separate monthly listening-stats widget and a Control Center / Action Button control that resumes your last book
- Read/finished status shown and editable per book, matching what each server actually supports: all 8 of BookOrbit's statuses (Unread, Want to Read, Reading, On Hold, Re-reading, Read, Skimmed, Abandoned), or Audiobookshelf's 3 (Not Started, In Progress, Finished). Each status has its own color, shown right in the picker
- Your place is kept even when a book is re-imported on the server (for example, when automation upgrades it to a better-quality file): Morrow recognizes the same book and carries your position forward, asking first if it isn't certain
- Full playback suite: background and lock-screen playback, chapters, continuously adjustable playback speed from 0.50x to 2.50x in 0.05x steps, sleep timer (including end-of-chapter), and skip controls you can set to whatever amount you prefer. Playback speed has a default plus per-book overrides, and the scrubber can switch between the whole book and the current chapter when chapter metadata is available. The on-screen scrubber spans the whole book by default, with an option to show time remaining and/or your progress as a percentage
- Offline downloads that keep going in the background (on Apple, a single-file download can even survive app termination), cancel one in progress with a swipe, plus an automatic playback cache with user-set size limit and cellular protection (nothing downloads over cellular unless enabled). A book that finishes downloading while already playing switches to its local copy, so it keeps playing in airplane mode. Progress made while listening offline is queued and pushed to your server the instant you're back online, so switching devices afterward picks up from where you actually left off
- iCloud backup of the server list via iCloud Keychain, restorable on other devices
- Sync between your Apple devices, including Apple TV: your Up Next list, the books you have swiped off Continue Listening, your recently played list, per-book playback speed, Home shelf arrangement, and listening history all follow you, so a change made on one device shows up on the others while they are open. Uses your own private iCloud database, everything end-to-end encrypted so only your devices can read it, and is covered by the same "Sync Servers and Up Next" setting as the server backup. Your place in a book is separate: that lives on your own server, so it reaches Android and your server's web player too
- Your place in a book is restored instantly from the device instead of waiting on a server request, so a downloaded book opens straight to where you were even on a bad connection. Positions that go missing on one device now repair themselves from the other rather than staying lost
- Continue Listening, Up Next, playback speed, and your position in the book you are listening to all keep up while an app sits open, instead of only refreshing when you reopen it. Stop on one device and pick up on another and it follows within about half a minute
- Removing a book from Continue Listening now clears that record once you listen to the book again, rather than leaving it stored indefinitely
- CarPlay shows one set of skip buttons instead of two, and they follow the skip amounts you chose rather than a fixed 15 and 30 seconds
- CarPlay no longer briefly shows another server's books when you start the car
- Driving away from home no longer leaves Morrow waiting. If you have a home address set for a server and it drops out of range mid-session, Morrow now gives up on it after a few seconds and switches to that server's regular address, instead of waiting minutes. Previously this could make taps in CarPlay appear to do nothing for several minutes and then all take effect at once, pausing and switching books
- The Chapter and Book scrubber toggle keeps working on books loaded over a weak connection
- Ebook-only libraries and entries hidden (audiobook-focused)
- Light/dark appearance with matching app icon
- CarPlay: Home (with cover-art shelves matching whatever you've configured on your phone's Home tab), Collections, a full A-Z Library browse, Offline, and Now Playing with chapter/speed/skip controls. Switch servers from the car if you connect more than one
- Custom request headers per server, with a one-tap Cloudflare Access preset, for servers behind edge protection
- Password re-authentication prompt when a server rejects saved credentials (dismissable)
- Statistics describe your listening across your Apple devices (combined through your iCloud backup), with each server's own numbers shown separately
- Per-book listening-session history records when each session began, its start and end positions, and how long you actually listened. On Apple devices, listening history is included in the iCloud backup so it survives a reinstall or a new device
- Android keeps a crash-safe listening-position checkpoint on the device every five seconds and reconciles it with the server when reopening a book, preventing a force close or battery optimization from resetting your place
- Genre Spotlight can be limited to a custom allow-list of eligible genres, while retaining an All Genres default
- Android orders progress saves so a delayed older request cannot overwrite a newer listening position, and caches each server's library list for faster Android Auto startup on weak connections
- When a server does not provide chapters, Morrow can recover common chapter marks embedded in M4B/M4A audio files
- Six accent themes (Bronze, Ink, Forest, Plum, Rust, and Slate) provide coordinated light and dark appearances; all are available during beta testing
- Android clearly distinguishes automatic playback caching from Keep Offline downloads and can promote the same transfer without downloading the book twice
- Android uses consistent cover sizing across Home, Library, and Collections, with a larger phone grid and an alphabet index that no longer obscures the last book
- Playing presents Chapters, Tracks, and History directly beneath the current book details; genres now appear before the synopsis, and an extra empty band above the bottom tabs has been removed
- Android's light and dark launcher icons now preserve the complete M and its surrounding border instead of appearing zoomed or clipped by adaptive launcher masks
- Switching from one book directly to another no longer risks saving the wrong position if playback is interrupted mid-switch, protecting real listening progress
- Continue Listening keeps showing your in-progress books through a spotty connection instead of going blank on a failed refresh, on both the phone and CarPlay
- Chapter numbers on the lock screen and in CarPlay now stay in sync the instant you jump to a new chapter, including when that chapter is in a different audio file
- Removing a book from Continue Listening on one Apple device now carries over to your other Apple devices instead of staying local to the one you removed it on
- Android now supports removing books from Continue Listening too; Audiobookshelf stores the choice on the server so it is shared with Apple and the Audiobookshelf web app, while BookOrbit keeps it on the Android device because that server has no matching field
- Android protects listening progress throughout a book switch and will not fall back to an old local position when a live server progress request merely failed
- Android Home, Library, and Android Auto retain their last confirmed content through temporary refresh failures, and changing the active server immediately refreshes the connected Android Auto browse tree
- Android Auto's top-level browse works again. Since the September 4 Android build, opening Morrow on a head unit could fail to list Home, Library, and Offline at all; the Chapters shortcut was reading the player from the wrong thread and taking the whole list down with it
- Android links the documentation from the places people get stuck: the Home and Settings connection-failed states, Add Server (a setup guide for the selected server type, and troubleshooting after a failed save), and About, which now has separate Setup Guides and Troubleshooting rows
- Android's Recent Series and Newest Authors shelves now use full-library date-added history instead of echoing Recently Added; Library also adds Date Added ordering, reversible sort direction, downloaded-only filtering, and provider-native read-status filters
- Android records persistent playback-load and download-failure diagnostics so a device-only failure can be investigated after the fact
